Student Loans and Winning Scholarships
In the last post I gave you a few tips on
how to write an essay to win scholarships.
Now, as I promised, here are a few tips on
what NOT to say in your essay.
1) Don’t use overly flowerly, exaggerated language
and don’t use cliches. These phrases have been used
so many time that the judges just toss them.
And don’t quote “I have a dream” if your dream
is just to get some scholarship money.
Too many students misuse quotes and if not done
correctly using quotes will work against you.
If you do use a quote, make it brief.
More than one or two sentences is overkill.
2) Don’t start your essay with the words
“I deserve this award because…”
It’s a weak introduction.
Make your introduction as creative as possible.
3) Don’t use cheap or colored paper.
Use a white, thick, CLEAN sheet of paper which
will make a favorable impression with the judges.
And don’t use some fancy or novelty script.
Stick with the basics and make it easy for the judges to read.
These few tips alone will make your application stand
out over 80% of other applicants and give you a much
better chance of getting selected for the scholarship.
Now, In the last post I promised you that I would clue you
in on where to apply for some scholarship money.
